Herbalist Mai Van Buoi (Ut Nho) – Keeping the Flame of Passion with “Medicinal Poems”
With many important contributions to medical examination and treatment for many years, the Duong Sinh Duong Traditional Medicine Clinic of Herbalist Mai Van Buoi (Ut Nho) was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Vietnam Union of UNESCO Associations.
Over the years, in addition to taking care of medicinal plants, dispensing medicines and providing medical examination and treatment to the people, Herbalist Mai Van Buoi has also devoted a lot of time and enthusiasm to writing many medical books. Each of his books is always a combination of traditional medicine and modern medicine and also gathers the experiences that he has accumulated in the process of medical examination and treatment. In particular, when taking notes on medical remedies, he always transforms them into easy-to-read and easy-to-remember poems. Sharing with us, Herbalist Ut Nho excitedly said: “In the past, I found it very difficult to study oriental medicine, because the materials were so numerous that I couldn't remember them all. At that time I thought I would need a solution to remember them more effectively, and then I chose to convert the remedies into poems.”
After thinking of a new way of learning, I began to transform all the materials I got and read “medical poems” everywhere I went. I even used "medical poems" to lull my babies. Perhaps thanks to those "medical poems", all of my children now have passion and enthusiasm for my medicine profession. The poems not only help me master the medical knowledge, but also shorten the time of medical examination and treatment for patients.
According to Herbalist Ut Nho, it took him 10 years to learn and master the knowledge of Oriental medicine. Thanks to the way of learning "medical poems", it took him only 3 years to pass on his knowledge to his students. So far, he has written nearly three sets of books and more than ten thousand poems about medical remedies and ingredients. Herbalist Ut Nho said that he intends to donate all the books containing his whole life's enthusiasm to the treasure of folk medicine materials. At the same time, he will also synthesize some materials of Oriental medicine knowledge and preserve it for his descendants, so they can follow in his footsteps in providing medical care and treatment to save people’s lives.
